Interview with the Vampire - Book vs. Movie I cannot speak for all, but I find watching the movie much more interesting than reading the book. I find that the movie paints a perfect picture well on the other hand reading the book you have to let your imagination take over and create images in your head of what might the scene look like. â€Å"Interview with the Vampire† was a well-written book and a well developed movie after reading the book and the watching the movie I found the movie much more entertaining then reading the book. The film has a sense of humor that the book never even alluded to. Some scenes are unchanged in the movie from the book. That’s why I found that the plot in the movie was exactly as it was in the book. There is a scene where Louis first feeds off of Claudia and her transformation, and there is also a scene at the Theatre de Vampires are practically word for word from the book. There is a scene where Claudia sleeps in Louis coffin this also accurse in the movie. There is also a scene where Lestat locks a whore in a coffin which also accurse in the movie but much more entertaining to watch then read. Also, Lestats two demises are the same, though there is no vampire musician who accompanies Lestat at that point in the book. Though the line about I know someone who would make a better vampire than you is still there. There are also fore more scenes that are the same. I also found that the plot in the movie and the plot in the book occur at the same time. The plot occurs when, L ouis and Claudia a 6-year-old girl decide to kill their creator, Leastat and move to Paris. Lestat loved the blood of man and women. He would bite, and then kill. Louis hated that. He survived on rats and chickens. Louis made one bite on a human that he regretted. It was a little girl, Claudia. He left her to die. The past can tell a lot about someone s life and personality. In literature the use of flashback gives insight to both the characters as well as the plot of the story. Both Neil Gaiman’s â€Å"How to talk to Girls at Parties† and Edgar Allen Poe’s â€Å" The Cask of Amontillado† show examples of using this literary device and how it affects the story. Not only does the use of flashback give insight to the character’s background and motivation ,but also affects both stories in tone and characterization. Neil Gaiman’s short story takes place thirty years in the past. Gaiman uses flashback to create tone and suspense. The story begins with two young friends on the way to a party together. However, Gaiman causes the reader to question what will happen later on by interrupting the story saying, â€Å"I’ve not seen Vic for thirty years. I’m not sure that I would know what to say to him if I did† (228). Both Enn and Vic were gr eat friends; however, Enn stating in the future that him and Vic have not talked or seen each other in thirty years shows that something in the story has caused this riff between them. The application of flashback causes the reader to question what in the story has caused this and gives a sense of uncertainty. This example of flashback also acts as foreshadowing towards the plot. A Choir Concert by California State University Long Beach Choir free essay sample

On the sixth of January, 2011, I attended a performance which took place in San Ramon Valley High School’s Performing Arts Theatre. But much to my surprise, the high school’s choir wasn’t the only group performing. Another choir, consisting of 42 exceptional singers attending California State University, Long Beach, took the audience through many oohs and ahhs while they sang on stage. Of course, thanks to the college’s directors, Christine Guter and Jonathan Talberg, the performance, being my first one to attend, left me with a unique first impression. Going back to the first couple songs, sang by the San Ramon Valley High School’s own women and men’s ensembles, they made a semi-formal appearance, wearing their uniform green shirts and khaki pants. I saw the comfort of their apparel, which made the singing even more enjoyable. With smiles on their faces and eyes sparkling bright, their moving choreography enhanced their singing of catchy as well as well known songs. The Long Beach choir had classic black, floor length dresses along with suits for their uniform. Though not exciting, they had great posture, which to me made the stage look a little more open. If I were to comment about the setting in general, the lighting was bright enough to see, the various instruments supplied the best music to the ear, the microphones worked to a good volume, and the seats were abundant. After attending the performance, I was asked by my acquaintances how they sounded. A simple response, good, great, or even fabulous, didn’t cut it. So, I went into the details. My comments were mainly focused on the Long Beach choir’s performance portion because they took up most of the time of my attendance. Their voices blended as one, in unison. The balance between the different sections of the choir was well done, though the altos and sopranos took over time to time. Their pronunciation and diction was well practiced. Aside from blending and balance, the performers’ tone was dark and rich. The breaths they took seemed silent and invisible. They definitely did not sound nasal or bright. Crescendos and decrescendos were often heard, and made the pieces very mysterious. Sforzandos were used as well, providing a sudden burst of sound, which at certain times, felt too harsh on the ear. As for tuning, well, considering they are top singers that went through auditions after auditions, you can believe that they were not off key. Well rehearsed music took care of any sharp or flat sounds that may have been produced. As for my personal opinion on the most enjoyable song, I’d say â€Å"Don’t Stop Believing† sung by the San Ramon Valley High School’s choir was extraordinary as they turned it into their own version by adding a little spice audibly as well as facial expressions, and great choreography to go along with it. That song really got me smiling and ready to move. A little later into the performance came a song sung by the Long Beach choir, called â€Å"Duh Tvoy Blagih†. I did not particularly like that song for a couple reasons. I thought the dynamics changed too often, which became quite annoying due to the fact that the sound just blares and the next second, is hard to hear. Another thing is that all the parts had pretty much the same tune in different octaves. There was no overlapping, or mixing, which made it rather dull. Also, the song was in Latin, but unlike other songs in different languages, the facial expressions or tune of the song did not help me realize the theme of the song. But all in all, watching my first choir performance was phenomenal, and I’m already marking my calendar for the next one.
